Risk Factors, Causes, Symptoms, and Complications of Inguinal Hernias

If there is a part of the intestine or tissue that goes through the abdominal wall or muscle, then this is termed an inguinal hernia. It can be painful when you bend over, lift heavy objects or cough. It may or may not be dangerous. Some can cause life-threatening complications. Surgery may be recommended if it gets bigger or hurts. This is a common surgery.

What are the risk factors? If you are a man, older, white, have a family history of inguinal hernias, have a chronic cough or chronic constipation, you are at a higher risk for an inguinal hernia.
